Rhode Island Agencies: Support for Regulatory Compliance is a Sound Investment
09/03/2025
Compliance issues are real and costly for home care and home health agencies.
According to a recent article in the Summer 2025 newsletter from the Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care, regulatory compliance is an urgent topic for Rhode Island based licensed home care and home health care providers.
The article details a recent presentation by the Rhode Island Department of Health’s Center for Health Facilities Regulation (CHFR) in which they revealed the results of agency surveys in which 23/23 home care agencies received citations and 16/18 home health care providers received citations.
According to the article, “The CHFR team emphasized the escalating penalties for continued and repeat non-compliance…” which included descriptions of the penalties.

Jennifer Lee, Corcoran Consulting Group’s Managing Consultant, Home Health & Hospice, and an expert in Rhode Island compliance matters, shared a recent experience with a Rhode Island client who had deficiencies and the responsive solutions that she employed with them to bring them into compliance:
“Our client received a 58-page survey report," Jennifer explains. "She recognized she needed assistance to develop and implement the plan of correction. Fortunately, at Corcoran Consulting Group, we have a team of home health experts made up of compliance officers and former administrators. Working closely with our client, we created an accepted plan of care by the deadline. Additionally, we have prepared the agency for the follow-up survey.”
Jennifer adds, “This preparation includes updated policies and procedures, audit tools, emergency preparedness procedures, a QAPI plan, and an Alzheimer’s Operations Plan. Not only will our client successfully pass audit, she believes, “she has a stronger agency going forward.”
Additionally, there are reliable measures that agencies can take to ensure that they are not only in compliance, but also ready for unexpected visits by the CHFR team. According to Jennifer, “Getting your agency to be pro-active and ready for a survey can be an incredible value, when you consider the time, resources and potential penalties that can result from non-compliance.”
